"Smiling Faces" In darkest void, it hides in wait, born in sorrow, forged in hate. A cleft it reaves, deep in my heart - threats to tear my soul apart. Heaven sent, the time before - each fleeting joy did I adore; the rains that fell, the sun that shone, sweet footfalls on the cobblestone - An echo in my ears did ring, not dancing, no - we've taken wing! Our lips cry out, we harmonize; our spirit bared, don no disguise - Our secrets break on ragged shores; no discord sown, no slamming doors. Each smiling face to gaze our way would see us plain, our love portray. Yet sorrow creeps, as water flows - a certainty, without repose; each cranny brimmed, each crack it fills, it halts our breath, our heart it stills... The echo fades; I am alone. The rain yet falls upon the stones. Torn apart, fates heavy hand has struck me firm with its remand. Buried deep, the knife is plunged, into my heart; he is expunged. Each feather plucked, no wings remain; our flight is over, silence reigns. A sharpened chord has struck my mind - like heavy cloaks I shroud behind. Upon my tongue, my secrets cling; no voice to urge my soul to sing. In darkest void, it hides in wait... reminding sting of bitter fate. And every smiling face I see just twists that knife inside of me. Bat'Sheba | |
